Class of 2008

Bekka Wood, HHS Class of 2008,was named to the Dean’s List of Messiah College in Grantham, Pennsylvania, where she is an Art History Major with a Studio Art Minor. This spring, some of Bekka’s artwork will be showcased at the Harrisburg Institute in Harrisburg. Bekka plans to do a study abroad program next semester which will take her either to Rome, Italy or Oxford, England. Bekka is the daughter of Ted and Diana Wood of Allison Park.

Tupper Wins Multiple Academic Awards - In April 2010, Tiffany Tupper was awarded second place at the Undergraduate Research Symposium for the Consortium for Educational Resources on Islamic Studies for a paper based on independent research on Egyptian economic development and urban waste management related to Cairo’s zabaleen, or garbage collectors. Additionally, on April 20, Tupper was awarded the Anna Dravo Parkin Award, Sally Mercke Heym ‘63 Memorial Award for Cross Cultural Studies, and Sigo Falk Award for International Awareness and Citizenship from Chatham University. She will use these awards to perform field research on the zabaleen in Cairo, Egypt during Summer 2010. This will be her second trip to the country for academic studies and research.
The Anna Dravo Parkin Award recognizes a junior or senior student who has distinguished herself in the study and practice of history. The Sally Mercke Heym ‘63 Memorial Award for Cross Cultural Studies is a fund established for the purpose of awarding student travel/study scholarships. The award is designed to foster international understanding and cooperation through education.
The Sigo Falk Award for International Awareness and Citizenship is in honor of Falk’s many contributions to Chatham University, and aims to honor a student who has demonstrated a commitment to international awareness and citizenship. Tupper is a junior at Chatham University and is pursuing an undergraduate degree majoring in History and Political Science and minoring in Religion with a focus on Middle Eastern studies. She is the daughter of George and Kimberly Tupper of Hampton.

HHS Graduate Awarded Fellowship - Bradley Jakab, a 2007 graduate of Hampton High School and the son of Thomas and Barbara Jakab of Allison Park, was recently awarded a fellowship for study in the Hanyang University International Summer Program in Seoul, South Korea. This program is limited to eight students and is devoted to study and travel within Asia. The group will embark on a five-week study and travel itinerary, which includes excursions across China. Bradley is majoring in Computer Engineering at Ohio Northern University, where he is completing his junior year. Upon returning from Asia, he will continue his software development internship at SAY Security Group USA, located in Northwest Ohio, which engineers and distributes advanced digital video recording and surveillance equipment for OEMs, dealers, and distributors in North and South America.

HHS Grad Wins Entrepreneurial Scholarship - Kevin Holesh, a 2007 graduate of Hampton High School, was awarded a scholarship for his outstanding performance in the classroom, involvement in extracurricular activities relating to entrepreneurism, and a composition written outlining his conviction to become a successful entrepreneur. Kevin attends Duquesne University School of Business Entrepreneurial Studies Program, in the Honors Program. Ron Morris, director of the program at Duquesne, in his award letter personally noted Kevin’s entrepreneurial character. The scholarship was sponsored by Duquesne alumni and CEO of Penneco Oil, Terrence S. Jacobs. Kevin’s future plans include managing a web design business, which he started in 2005. Kevin is the son of Sharon and Greg Holesh of Gibsonia

Class of 2004

Jen Mall, HHS Class of 2004, is a contributor to the two-part CNN science special airing June 2 and 3, 2010.  Mall, a Columbia University graduate student of Molecular Epidemiology, assisted with research and molecular models for the production.  Her science studies along with her long-time interest in journalism have proved to be valuable assets for the project, said Mall.  The two-part special focuses on how pollutants, such as plastics and pesticides, are absorbed in utero and the potential long-lasting effects on babies born toxic.  More on the CNN special.

Class of 1994

Hampton Grad to Help Direct Pittsburgh Fashion Week - In September 2010, Pittsburgh will hold its first-ever “New York Style” Fashion Week, September 27 to October 3. Pittsburgh Fashion Week will hold daily runway shows, featuring local designers and retailers, as well as shows with the following themes: mensear, petites and plus-sizes, eco chic, Pink show benefitting the Susan G. Komen Foundation, and national designer events. There will be an opening night extravaganza and a special afternoon devoted to the new Pittsburgh Fashion Hall of Fame.
Gina (Caruso) Hussar, a 1994 Hampton Graduate, is assistant fashion director of the event. “This is an amazing opportunity for our city,”she says. “People are so excited about this and most of the event tickets are only $10, so it’s really accessible to everyone. Class of 1986

Ted Anthony, a veteran editor and correspondent for The Associated Press (AP) who has helped develop social media strategies and new storytelling techniques in AP newsrooms, was named an assistant managing editor for AP in February 2010.  See Story.

Class of 1985

On Wednesday evening, January 27, 2010, Hampton Township Council unanimously appointed Susan A. Bernet to the position of Assistant Township Manager. A long-time employee of the Township, Ms. Bernet assumed her duties as Assistant Manager effective immediately and will be focusing her efforts on resident requests for service, the management of the Township’s insurance and workers’ compensation programs, and internal office management operations. Ms. Bernet is a 1985 graduate of Hampton High School.

Class of 1976

Hampton High School, Class of 1976 celebrated its 35th Reunion on October 15 with a Silent Auction to honor 22 deceased classmates.  

Proceeds in the amount of $1,685 benefited the Hampton Alliance for Educational Excellence (HAEE). (L-R) The donation check was presented by Bev Kury Haggerty and Dr. Kirsten Roling (both Class of '76) to Amy DeGregorio, President of HAEE. 

Class of 1970

Dan Cardone, HHS class of 1970, "is a bona fide member of a club that includes cyclist Lance Armstrong, Penn State football coach Joe Paterno and soccer star Mia Hamm". See Story.
